How to Analyse Looped Questions?

Loops allow respondents to answer the same Group of Questions multiple times but with a different loop variable (e.g. brand or concept) shown each time.

In this article, we'll first take you on a tour of the:

Then in the Loop Analysis section, we'll show you how to analyse looped questions from the simplest (choice) to the most complex (matrix).

Let's begin!

Loop Editor

This is how Looped questions are built in your Survey Settings, with 6 questions and 1 section Grouped, then Looped, across 7 Loop Variables borrowed from Q11's Zest Concepts.

Loop Preview

This is how Looped questions appear to respondents in your survey preview, with a different loop variable (AND even a different loop image!) shown each time.

Q12_Loop Variable 1: Zest Tostadas

Q12_Loop Variable 2: Zest Tacos

Loop Analysis:

To analyse Looped Questions in your Analyse tab, go to any of your Looped Questions and simply use the Loop Dropdown to switch between your loop variables (e.g. brands or concepts). That's all there is to it. Here's 4 examples:

1: Looped Choice Crosstab

Q12_Loop 1: Zest Tostadas

  1. Click the Loop Dropdown
  2. Select Zest Tostadas
  3. Analyse your Chart and Table

Q12_Loop 2: Zest Tacos

  1. Click the Loop Dropdown
  2. Select Zest Tacos
  3. Analyse your Chart and Table

Congratulations. Looped Choice Crosstab analysis complete! 🎉

Pfft... but Choice is simple and easy. What about a harder problem, like Looped Matrix questions, with Loops, Statements, AND Choices? 😱

2: Looped Matrix Default

To analyse a looped matrix question...

Q17_Loop 1: Zest Tostadas

  1. Click the loop dropdown,
  2. Select a loop variable, e.g. zest tostadas,
  3. Then analyse the results!

Chart:

Table:

Q17_Loop 2: Zest Tacos

Again, click the loop dropdown, select another loop variable, e.g. zest tacos, then analyse the results in your table and chart!

Chart:

Table:

Superb, your analysis for looped matrix default is done. 🥳

But can you handle the next problem?

The hardest problem of them all? 🥺

3: Looped Matrix Crosstab

To create a looped matrix crosstab:

  1. change Rows from "Statements" to "Filters"
  2. click the Loop Dropdown,
  3. select a loop variable, e.g. zest tostadas,
  4. then analyse the results!

Q17B_Loop 1: Zest Tostadas_Statement 1: Looks good value for money

Chart:

Table:

Q17B_Loop 2: Zest Tacos_Statement 1: Looks good value for money

Again, click the loop dropdown, select another loop variable, e.g. zest tacos, and analyse the results!

Chart:

Table:

Q17B_Loop 2: Zest Tacos_Statement 2: Looks easy to eat/mess-free

Finally, click the statement dropdown, select a statement variable, e.g. Looks easy to eat/mess-free, then analyse the results!

Chart:

Table:

Wow. You've just analysed the most complex question possible, with 4 Variables:

  1. Loops
  2. Statements
  3. Choices
  4. Filters

How did you do it?

However, for the last example:

  • we won't end on a complex note.
  • we'll instead end with a simple problem. 😉

4: Looped Text Wordcloud

To analyse looped text questions, again, just use the loop dropdown to switch between your looped brands / concepts. Simple.

For example:

Q13_Loop 1: Why do you think the Food Brand's Zest Tostadas is {{Q12}}?
