What is Netting Choices? How can I Net or Merge my Choices?

Subscriber > Project > Survey > Analyse > Question > 3-dot Menu > Netting Choices in Chart & Table

As a Survey Analyst, you can use Netting to merge, rename, hide, and move Choices in your Chart and Table so you can see how many Respondents selected any of the Choices that you want to merge.

To do this yourself, in your Survey Analysis, go to a Choice based question (Choice, Scale, Matrix), then...

  1. Click the Netting button to see all individual Choices.
  2. Select the individual Choices that you want to merge, then click Merge selected.
    • Merge will add (+1) new net Choice and remove (-4) the previously selected individual Choices.
  3. Rename your merged Choice then click Done to apply new merged Choice to your Question's Chart and Table. You can also optionally...
    • Hover over 'info' icon to see original Choices.
    • Unmerge Choices.
    • Hide or unhide Choices. Note that Hide will not Remove the choice from your data (i.e. won't Rebase data), it will simply make it so that choice is not visible in your charts and tables.
    • Move Choices up or down.

This means you can now analyse your...

Questions:

Q1. Which Question Types are compatible with Netting?

  • A: Netting is currently compatible with Choice based question types, such as Choice, Scale, or Matrix questions. It is not compatible with Rank, Text, Numeric, or Score question types (yet).

Q2. Is the Netting capability available in the Shared Analysis Link?

  • A: Currently, only the Survey Editor/Owner can use Netting in their Analysis and updating Netting will update Netting for everyone viewing your Analysis across all Shared Analysis Links, which means that Netting can't be done separately in the Shared Analysis Link.

Q3. Why is Netting only available in Charts and Tables but not in Crosstabs?

  • A: Because Crosstabs now will be replaced by new Analysis V2 next.
